Spoonflower

My Spoonflower swatches came in the mail over the weekend!

spoonflower

I had read that their colors typically come out a bit less saturated, which definitely is the case, but it's fun nonetheless to see some of my designs on fabric. I might play around with the colors some more and give it another go before ordering actual yardage and possibly putting it into the shop. We'll see.

I'd really like to move towards textiles one day, but am uncertain about how or where to begin. Screenprinting designs myself would be so fun, but it seems very labor-intensive and also somewhat limiting (size of fabric, number of colors, etc). Yet professional digital textile printers (or textile screenprinters) would require me to order a lot of yardage before the price per yard is anywhere near reasonable. Starting with something simple that I screenprint myself makes the most sense right now. It'll take me time to gather everything I need and to get familiar with the process though. Must be patient!

Your designs look fabulous on fabric Wendy! What a great collection of swatches. Have they been digitally printed or screenprinted?

i really like them. I've been thinking of giving it a go myself, except the Aussie $ has gone into freefall!

Ink and Spindle will be opening their doors for screenprinting business soon. you should check them out.

These designs would translate very well to screen printing- particularly the single colors- but I am with you on the "labor" part. There's also "space" and "time" for me to consider! These are fresh clean designs, and though you feel the color is not what it should be, they look really bright.

Pretty pretty. Did you notice a big difference in color? I just got my swatch back. The color wasn't even close.

You continually inspire me.

these are all gorgeous but the blue raindrop print is giving me that panicky "must. have." feeling!

beautiful colors!
I have joined Spoonflower too, although I no nothing about pattern/design.
Would you recommend a software or helpful links to get started?

oh i love them!!!

hi eva - i use adobe illustrator mostly, and then photoshop to convert the colors into LAB (recommended by Spoonflower). if you have illustrator, here are a few tutorials for creating patterns:

hope this helps :)
